How Ignition Lock Cylinder Works

In order to understand how to remove an ignition lock cylinder without a key it is essential to know how the ignition lock cylinder works. The ignition lock cylinder is responsible for locking and unlocking the steering wheel. It is also what allows the car key to start the engine. The ignition lock cylinder comprises two parts: the tumbler and the keyway.

The tumbler is the part of the ignition lock cylinder that the key fits into. The keyway is the part of the ignition lock cylinder where the notches on the car key fit. When you insert your car key into the ignition the tumblers will rotate to align with the notches on your car key. This will allow you to turn the ignition and start your car.

Removing Ignition Lock Cylinder Without Key- Tools You'll Need

In order to successfully remove the ignition lock cylinder without a key youll need a few tools. These include:

A drill bit

Power drill

Screwdriver

Paperclip

How To Replace Ignition Switch Without Key- The Steps

Now that we have all the tools we need lets discuss how to remove an ignition lock cylinder without a key. This method requires professional tools and skills so if you are sure you can do it please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Disconnect your cars battery

The first and most crucial step in this process is disconnecting the car battery. This will protect you from harm and electrocution while you work on your vehicle. To do so take off the negative cable terminal.

Step 2: Get the steering wheel out

In order to access the ignition cylinder better you will need to remove the steering wheel. To do so take out the screws to remove both the upper and lower cover of the column. Once you have removed those covers pull back on the center cover until the wheel lifts off. Disconnect any wires that connect to the horn.

You will also want to keep track of which nuts and washers came from where you dismantle everything this way; it is easier when it comes time to put it all back together again! Finally once everything is unscrewed and disconnected you should be able to simply pull the wheel right off of its shaft.

Step 3: Remove the wiper and indicator switches.

Remove the wiper and indicator switches from the steering wheel. This will give you more room to work and access to the back of the ignition switch. To do this unscrew and remove the screws holding these switches in place. You will likely need a small flathead screwdriver for this task.

Step 4: Take the sleeves from the steering column out.

You will need to take the plastic sleeves out of the steering column to access the retaining clip holding the ignition switch. To do this use a small screwdriver or a butter knife to pry these plastic sleeves.

Step 5: Remove the electrical connector.

Locate and remove the electrical connector attached to the back of the ignition switch. This will likely be a small black connector. Once you have found it use your fingers to disconnect it by pressing down on the tab holding it in place and then pulling it apart.

Step 6: Take the mounting bolts out and check the bolts.

Use a socket wrench or flat screwdriver to remove the bolts and screws holding the ignition switch. Next take out the bolts of the housing which contains the cylinder. The release mechanism can be triggered by using a pin and inserting it into a tiny hole that is usually found on almost all car models with an interchangeable ignition lock cylinder.

Step 7: Insert a straightened paper clip.

If you want to prevent the ignition from starting use a paper clip that has been straightened out and insert it into the lock cylinder slot. Turn it to the left until you feel it click into place this means that the cylinder is now locked.

Step 8: Insert a flathead screwdriver.

Put the flathead screwdriver in the cylinder and move it to the right. Push it as far as possible. When the screwdriver cant go any further pull the paper clip to the right.

Step 9: Remove the ignition lock from its place.

And finally the last step is to remove the ignition lock from its place. To do this simply pull it out with your fingers or use a pair of pliers if its stubborn. Be careful not to damage any surrounding wires as you do this.

Step 10: Installing the new ignition.

Now that you have removed the old ignition its time to install the new one. To do this simply follow all of the steps in reverse start by inserting the new ignition into its place and then screwing it in with the bolts. Make sure that it is secure before moving on to the next step.

Step 11: Reconnect all of the wires and switches.

Now its time to reconnect all the wires and switches you disconnected earlier. Start with the electrical connector followed by the wiper and indicator switches. Once those are all back in place screw in the covers of the steering column and then reattach the steering wheel.

Step 12: Reattach the negative cable to the battery.

The last step is to reattach the negative cable to the battery. Once you have done that turn on the ignition and test it out to ensure everything is working properly. Youre all done if everything seems to be in working order! Congratulations you have successfully removed and replaced your cars ignition lock without a key.

Alternative Methods

Aside from the method that has been described above there are a few other ways that you can go about removing an ignition lock cylinder without a key. Here are some of the common alternatives:

Using a Hammer

If you find yourself in a bind and dont have any other tools available you can try using a hammer to break the lock cylinder. Simply insert the hammers handle into the keyhole and hit it as hard as you can with the palm of your hand. While this method is not recommended it may be your only option if youre in a pinch.

Using a Coat Hanger

This method is similar to the one described above but instead of using a paper clip you will use a coat hanger. Straighten out the coat hanger and insert it into the keyhole. Once its all the way in twist it until you hear a clicking noise. This indicates that the cylinder is now locked. From here proceed as you would with the paper clip method.

Call a Locksmith

If all else fails you can always take your car to a locksmith and have them remove the ignition lock cylinder for you. They are highly trained and have the right tools to do the job quickly and efficiently.

At CD Locksmith we have the tools and experience necessary to remove ignition lock cylinders without a key no matter what type of car you have. We can assure you that your car is in good hands.

Tips on How to Prevent Your Ignition Lock Cylinder From Getting Stuck

Now that you know how to remove an ignition lock cylinder without a key its important to also know how to prevent it from getting stuck in the first place. Here are a few tips:

Avoid using any lubricant on the ignition lock cylinder as this can cause it to become stuck.- If you must use a lubricant make sure its specifically designed for ignition lock cylinders.

Be careful not to over-tighten the mounting bolts when installing the ignition lock cylinder. This can cause it to become damaged and more likely to get stuck.- Make sure the key is inserted all the way into the ignition lock cylinder before trying to turn it. This can help to prevent the cylinder from becoming damaged or stuck.

If you notice that the ignition lock cylinder is starting to get stuck have it replaced as soon as possible. Waiting too long can cause irreparable damage and make removal more difficult.

Process Of Picking A Lock With A Paperclip

When you arrive home and realize you lost your house keys it can be a very frustrating experience. Being locked out of your home is inconvenient and dangerous especially if youre alone. Luckily there are ways to open a door lock without a key. Do you have a paper clip? If so then youre in luck. Heres a simple guide on how to pick a door lock with a paperclip.

What Youll Need:

Two paper clips: One is to act as a tension wrench and one is to act as a pick.

Pliers: You will use this to bend the paperclip.

Step One: Make Your Pick

First take the first paperclip and unfold the end so its straight. You will be inserting this into the keyhole so you need to make sure its long enough to reach the back of the keyhole.

Step Two: Make Your Tension Wrench

Get the other paper clip and straighten it out. Leave the other side curve a little so you can hold on to it. This will be your tension wrench. You should be careful and ensure you do it correctly as this will make the penetration of your pick easier.

Step Three: Insert Your Tension Wrench

Once you have both tools ready its time to start picking the lock. First insert your tension wrench into the keyhole and turn it clockwise until you feel some resistance. This is how you know youve found the right spot.

Step Four: Insert the Pick

Now insert your pick into the keyhole and start moving it up and down. You will feel the pins inside the lock start to move. Keep moving the pick until you feel all the pins move. Once youve felt all the pins move turn your tension wrench clockwise and the door should open.

If everything turned out well congratulations! Youve just picked your first door lock. On the other hand if it didnt work out dont worry; here at CD Locksmith we are always here to help. We offer a wide range of services including lock picking and we will be more than happy to help you out. You can assure that you will be in good hands.

Tips On How To Pick A Door Lock With A Paperclip

There you have it! As you can see picking a door lock with a paperclip is not as daunting as you think. However you can still try many things to make the process even more successful.

Use Two Paperclips Instead Of One

If youre having trouble picking the lock with one paperclip try using two. Using one paperclip is the most common method but having two can give you more leverage and make the process easier. This will give you more control and make it easier to manipulate the pins inside the lock.

Bend The End Of Your Tension Wrench

If youre still having trouble picking the lock you can try bending the end of your tension wrench. This is because the tension wrench can sometimes slip out of the keyhole when youre trying to pick the lock. By bending the end it will create more friction and make it easier for you to keep the tension wrench in place.

Use Lubricant

Still having trouble? Then you can try using some lubricant. This will help the picks slide smoothly inside the keyhole and make it easier to manipulate the pins. However be careful not to use too much as it might drip inside the lock and cause more problems. A good tip is to apply the lubricant on the outside of the keyhole first and then insert your pick.

Use Pliers Instead Of Your Hands

If you find it difficult to hold the paperclip with your hands you can try using pliers. This will give you more control and make it easier to pick the lock. Our hands tend to get sweaty when were anxious making it difficult to hold onto the paperclip.

Try it With Different Sized Paperclip

If youre still having trouble you can try using different-sized paper clips. Sometimes the size of the paperclip can make a difference. If the one youre using is too small then it might not be able to reach the back of the keyhole. On the other hand if its too big then it might not be able to fit inside the keyhole.

Be Patient

Its understandable that you might get frustrated if its not working the first time. However its important to be patient and take your time. Picking a lock is not an easy task and it takes practice. So dont give up and keep trying. You will eventually get it.

Practice Makes Perfect

If you are unsure if you will be able to pick a door lock with a paperclip you can always practice on an old lock before trying it on a real one. This way you can get a feel for how the process works and what to expect. You can also try picking different types of locks so you can learn how to pick them all.

With these tips you should be able to pick a door lock with a paperclip like a pro! Just remember to take your time and be patient. After all practice makes perfect.

Common Mistakes People Make When Picking a Door Lock

Picking a door lock is professional and specific tools are required for the process. So if you are using a paperclip for the first time here are some mistakes you might be making.

Not Inserting The Paperclip All The Way

One mistake people make is not inserting the paperclip all the way into the keyhole. If you dont insert it all the way then you wont be able to reach the pins and it will be difficult to pick the lock. So make sure you insert it in.

Not Using Enough Tension

Another mistake people make is not using enough tension on the paperclip. If you dont use enough tension then the pins wont move and you wont be able to pick the lock.

Not Bending The Paperclip Correctly

In order to pick the lock you need to bend the paperclip in a specific way. If you dont bend it correctly it wont be able to reach the pins and you wont be able to pick the lock.

Not Manipulating The Pins Correctly

The final mistake people make is not manipulating the pins correctly. The proper way to do it is to apply pressure to the pins and then turn the paperclip. Some people apply the pressure and then turn the paperclip at the same time but this wont work. You need to do it one at a time or else you wont be able to pick the lock.

Not Having the Right Tools

This is one of the most common mistakes people make. You need to have specific tools in order to pick a door lock. A paperclip as a pick wont work. You need to make a tension wrench out of the paperclip or have a real one. No matter what you prefer you just need to make sure that you have the right tools.

Applying Too Much Pressure

If you are using a paperclip as your tension wrench you need to be careful not to apply too much pressure. If you do then the paperclip will break and you wont be able to pick the lock. And worse the paper clip will be left inside the keyhole.

Trying to Pick the Lock Too Fast.

This is a mistake that a lot of people make. They try to pick the lock too fast and they end up applying too much pressure or not enough tension. This will result in the paperclip breaking or not being able to reach the pins. So take your time and go slowly.

Using Too Much Lubricant

As mentioned above you need to use a lubricant in order to pick a door lock. However you dont need to use it too much. If you do then it will make the process more difficult because the paper clip will slip out.

Unlocking a Wrong Lock

Lock picking doesnt work with all kinds of locks. You need to make sure you are trying to pick the right lock. Otherwise you will be wasting your time. For example you cant pick a deadbolt with a paperclip. So before you prepare your tools ensure you know what kind of lock you are dealing with.

Locks that Can Be Open With a Paperclip

If you are unlocking your door lock but it seems like it is not working with the paperclip check to see if your lock is compatible with a paperclip. There are many types of locks and not all can be opened with a paperclip. Here are some of the most common types of locks that can be opened with a paperclip:

Tubular locks: These are the most common type of locks that you will find on doors. They are called tubular because they have a cylinder shape. You can use a paperclip with this type of lock because the paperclip can fit into the cylinder.

Wafer locks: These locks are similar to tubular locks but they have different shapes. They are called wafers because they have a wafer or disc shape. You can also open these locks with a paperclip.

Lever locks: These locks are less common but they are still used on some doors. They are called levers because they have a lever you need to push down to open the lock. If you are trying to open a lever lock with a paperclip you need to be careful because the paperclip can slip out of the lever.

Tips to Not Get Locked Out

Even if you know how to pick a door lock with a paperclip there are still some things that you can do to make sure that you dont get locked out. Here are some tips:

Always have a spare key: This is the most important thing you can do to ensure you dont get locked out. If you have a spare key you can always use it if you lose your primary key or if it stops working.

Keep your keys in a safe place: Another thing that you can do to make sure that you dont get locked out is to keep your keys in a safe place. This way you will always know where your keys are and wont have to worry about losing them.

Dont forget your keys: This may seem obvious but its still worth mentioning. If you are going to be away from home for a long period of time make sure that you take your keys with you. This way you wont have to worry about getting locked out. If you follow these tips you should be able to avoid getting locked out.

However if you do get locked out dont worry! You can always use a paperclip to pick the lock and get back into your home. You can also call a reliable locksmith so they can help you get back into your home.

At CD Locksmith we are always here to help you with your locksmith needs. We can help you if you are locked out of your home or need to change your locks. We use the right tools and techniques to make sure that your home is safe and secure. We assure you that we will get you back inside your home without damaging your door.

FAQ

What if my lock is not compatible with a paperclip?

As mentioned earlier before you try to open your lock with a paperclip you need to check to see if your lock is compatible. If your lock is incompatible you will not be able to open it. However there are other ways to open a door lock if you dont have a paperclip. You can try using a bobby pin or a hairpin. You can also try using a small screwdriver.

Can I use any type of paper clip?

Yes you can use any type of paperclip to pick a door lock. However some paper clips are better than others. For example thicker paperclips are easier to use because they are less likely to bend. You can also use a paperclip that has a hooked end. This will make it easier to grab the pins in the lock.

What if I cant pick the lock?

If you are having trouble picking the lock there are a few things that you can try. First make sure that you are using the right type of paperclip. Second make sure that you are inserted the paperclip into the lock correctly. If you are still having trouble you can try using a different tool such as a bobby pin or a small screwdriver. You can also try lubricating the lock with WD-40 or another type of lubricant. If these things do not work you may need to call a locksmith.

What if my lock is jammed?

If your lock is jammed you may need to call a locksmith. Trying to pick a jammed lock can damage the lock and make it harder to open. Any wrong move might snap the paperclip and you dont want that to happen.

Conclusion

In conclusion picking a door lock with a paperclip is a relatively easy process. However there are still some things that you need to keep in mind. Make sure that you have a spare key and keep your keys in a safe place. You should also avoid forgetting your keys and getting locked out. If you do get locked out dont worry! You can always use a paperclip to pick the lock and get back into your home. You can also call a reliable locksmith so they can help you get back into your home.

At CD Locksmith we are always here to help you with your locksmith needs. Our trained locksmiths will go above and beyond to make sure that you are satisfied with our services. We use the right tools and techniques to make sure that your home is safe and secure.

So if you ever find yourself locked out of your home dont hesitate to give locksmith Lake Worth FL a call! We would be more than happy to help you get back inside.

Can you pick a car door lock? It may seem like an impossible question but the truth is that anyone can do it with the right tools and techniques. This blog post will teach you how to pick a car door lock in just a few simple steps.

We will also provide tips on preventing your car from being locked out in the first place. So whether youre looking to learn how to pick a car lock for fun or security purposes read on for all the information you need!

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Car Lock: How does it Work

A car lock is a device used to secure a vehicles doors. It consists of a mechanism operated by a key which can be turned to lock or unlock the door. Car locks are usually located inside the door near the handle. When the car door lock is in the locked position it prevents the door from being opened from the outside.

There are two main types of car locks: manual and electronic. Manual car locks are operated by a key inserted into the lock and turned. Electronic car locks are operated by a remote control that activates the locking mechanism. If your car is manual and you lose your keys thats where lock picking comes in.

What is Lock Picking

This term is not literally choosing a lock but refers to the action of opening a lock without the use of its key. In most cases this is done by manipulating the pins inside the cylinder so that they align correctly allowing the plug to turn and open the lock.

This skill is often used by locksmiths and other professionals who need to gain entry into locked doors but it can also be helpful for regular people in everyday life. For example if you lose your keys and are locked out of your house or car knowing how to pick a lock can help you get back in without having to call a locksmith.

How Do You Unlock a Car Door Without Key

Now lets answer the questions you came here for is it possible to pick a car door lock and how do you do it? Well technically yes! It is possible to pick the lock on a car door but it is much more complicated than picking a traditional pin and tumbler lock.

This is because most car locks are equipped with wafers discs or levers instead of pins. These devices are designed to make lock picking more complex so unless you have experience with this type of lock it is probably not worth trying to pick it yourself.

If you do find yourself in a situation where you need to pick a car door lock here are some items you can use to get started:

A tension wrench

Bobby pins or paperclips

Flashlight (optional)

Pick Gun

Lock Picking Using a Bobby Pin

There are a few different ways to pick a lock but the most common method is to use a bobby pin. A bobby pin has two parts a thin end and a thicker end. The thicker end is the part that you will use to pick the lock.

You will also need a tension wrench which is a small L-shaped tool. The tension wrench is used to apply pressure to the pins in the lock so that they can be moved with the bobby pin. This is the most common method of lock picking and it is relatively easy to do.

However it can be difficult to apply enough pressure to the pins with the bobby pin which can make this method time-consuming. Additionally if you are not careful you can damage the pins in the lock making it more difficult to open.

As you can see a bobby pin method has both pros and cons. If you decide to use this method follow the step-by-step guide below.

To get started:

When inserting the bobby pin ensure the thicker end is pointing downwards. You will also want to insert the bobby pin at a 45-degree angle.

Now that the bobby pin is inserted you can start to apply pressure with the tension wrench. The tension wrench should be inserted into the bottom of the lock so that you can apply pressure while you are picking the lock with the bobby pin.

Now that you have the Bobby pin inserted and the tension wrench you can start picking the lock. The idea is to use the bobby pin to push up the pins in the lock to align with the shear line. This will allow the tension wrench to turn and open the lock.

Make sure to start with the pin furthest from the shear line and work your way in. To do this you will insert the bobby pin into the lock and apply pressure until you feel resistance. Once you feel resistance you want to move the bobby pin slightly to the side and then release the pressure. This will allow the pin to reset itself. You can then move on to the next pin.

Once all the pins are aligned you can turn the tension wrench and open the lock.

Lock Picking Using a Pick Gun

As mentioned above there are a few methods for picking a car door lock and another common way is using a pick gun. A pick gun is a tool that can be used to quickly open a car door lock.

A pick gun method is a quick and easy way to open a car door lock.

However pick guns can be expensive and they may damage the pins in the lock making it more difficult to open. Additionally if you are not careful you may break the car door window.

After knowing its pros and cons you might want to try it on your own or maybe have a second thought. If you do decide to use a pick gun here is how its done:

To use a pick gun you will first need to insert it into the lock. Once inserted you will pull the trigger to start the vibration.

The pick gun will vibrate the pins in the lock until they align and the door can be opened.

You may need to use the pick gun a few times to align all the pins but once they are you will be able to open the lock.

Slim Jim Method

Another popular method for picking a car door lock is the Slim Jim method. This method is often used by law enforcement and locksmiths to quickly open a car door. It is easy and widely used to open a car door but can damage the car door or the lock if not done carefully.

If you are decided to use this method and you think that you will be able to do it right here is how its done:

The first thing you need to do is insert the Slim Jim into the space between the door and the car frame.

Once the Slim Jim is inserted you must find the locking mechanism inside. This is usually located towards the top of the door.

Once you have found the locking mechanism you need to move the Slim Jim up and down until you find the sweet spot. This is the spot where Slim Jim will be able to move the locking mechanism and open the door.

Once you have found the sweet spot you will need to apply pressure to the Slim Jim and push it towards the floor. This will cause the door to unlock.

Coat Hanger Method

The final how-to pick a car door lock method that we will discuss is the coat hanger method. This method is often used by people who do not have any lock picking tools. Its a quick way to open a car door without any tools. However there is a high chance of damaging the lock and it may not work on all locks.

If you are decided to use this method and you think that you will be able to do it right here is how its done:

The first thing you need to do is straighten out the coat hanger. Once it is straight you will need to make a small hook at the end of the hanger.

Next you will need to insert the coat hanger into the space between the door and the car frame.

Once the coat hanger is inserted you will need to find the locking mechanism. This is usually located towards the top of the door.

Once you have found the locking mechanism you will need to move the coat hanger up and down until you find the sweet spot. This is the spot where the coat hanger will be able to move the locking mechanism and open the door.

Once you have found the sweet spot you will need to apply pressure to the coat hanger and push it towards the floor. This will cause the door to unlock.

As you can see there are many ways to pick a car door lock. The best way to choose the right method is to experiment with each one and see which one works best for you. With a little practice you can quickly and easily open any car door lock.

If you are unsure of your ability to pick a lock it is always best to call a locksmith. They will be able to quickly and easily open the door for you without damaging the lock.

The best way to pick a car door lock depends on the type of lock that youre dealing with as well as the tools that you have available. Lets look at some of the most common types of car locks and how to pick them.

Tumbler Lock

Tumbler locks are the most common type of locks used on cars and they can be picked using various methods. The most common way to pick a tumbler lock is by using a tension wrench and a lock pick.

Side Bar lock

Side-bar locks are another type of lock that you may come across. These locks are less common than tumbler locks but they can still be found on some cars. Side-bar locks can be picked using a rocker lock pick.

Wafer Tumbler Lock

The next type of lock is the wafer tumbler lock. Wafer tumbler locks are similar to tumbler locks but have different mechanisms. These locks can be picked using a tension wrench and a hook pick.

Disc Tumbler Lock

The last type of lock well discuss is the disc tumbler lock. Disc tumbler locks are less common than other locks but they can still be found on some cars. These locks can be picked using a tension wrench and a rake pick.

Slider Lock

This type of lock can be found on most recent car models regardless of the manufacturer. They are often used on models that have keyless entry fob and lock cylinders. Picking this lock is not as easy as the other types but it can be done with a bump key or a decoder.

Now that you know how to pick a few different types of car door locks youll be prepared next time you find yourself locked out. However if you are unsure how to do it right it is always best to call a locksmith. They will be able to help you out and get you back into your car in no time. Tips for Avoiding a Car Lockout

While no one ever wants to find themselves locked out of their car it is a situation that happens to even the best of us. If you want to avoid a car lockout there are a few things that you can do.

Make Sure Your Key is Always with You

The first tip is to make sure that your key is always with you. It may seem like a no-brainer but many people find themselves locked out because they left their keys inside the car. If you are going to be away from your car make sure to take your keys with you.

You can have a designated spot in your house where you keep your car keys or keep them on a keychain you always have with you.

Keep a Spare Key Handy

The second tip is to keep a spare key handy. Whether you hide a spare key on your property or give one to a trusted friend or family member having a spare key can be a lifesaver. If you do have a spare key keep it in a safe place where you can find it if you need it.

Invest in a Good Auto Lock Pick Set

The third tip is to invest in a good auto lock pick set. Having a lock pick set on hand can help you get back into your car if you find yourself locked out. Make sure to choose a set that comes with instructions and that has a variety of different picks.

Be Careful Who You Give Your Keys To

Lastly if you loan your car to someone make sure you trust them. You dont want to find yourself locked out because someone you lent your car to lost your keys.

By following these tips you can help avoid a car lockout. But if you find yourself in that situation remember that you can always call a locksmith to help you. At CD Locksmith we are here to help.

We are the largest specialist lock picks you can call in times of lockout situations. So if you find yourself in a bind and need assistance getting back into your car call us and we will be there before you know it.

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

What is Lock Picking

Lock picking is the art of opening a lock without the use of a key. It is often used by locksmiths and law enforcement officers to gain entry to locked doors. It can also be used for nefarious purposes such as burglary.

However it can also be a useful skill to have in case you lose your keys or find yourself locked out of your home. If youve been locked out in your bedroom lock picking is one of the ways you can get back in without a key.

Types of Bedroom Door Locks

There are a few different types of bedroom door locks that can be opened without a key. This includes:

Warded Lock

A warded lock is a type of lock that has obstructions (wards) inside the keyhole that prevent the wrong key from being inserted. In order to open a warded lock you will need a pick that can move its locking mechanism (wards) out of the way so that the correct key can be inserted.

Lever Lock

A lever lock is a type of lock that uses a lever instead of a key to open the door. In order to pick a lever lock you will need to use a tension wrench to apply pressure to the lever while you use a pick to move the levers up and down until they are in the correct position.

Pin Tumbler Lock

A pin tumbler lock is a type of lock that uses pins of different lengths to create a locking mechanism. In order to pick a pin tumbler lock you will need to use a tension wrench to apply pressure to the plug while you use a pick to manipulate the pins until they are in the correct position.

How to Pick a Bedroom Door Lock - The Tools You'll Need

To pick a bedroom door lock you will need a few tools. However the tools you will use depend on your lock type. Assuming you have a pin tumbler lock lets go over how to pick it. Heres what you need:

Tension Wrench: This is a small tool that is inserted into the keyway of the lock. The tension wrench is used to apply torque to the lock pick. Without this tool it would be complicated to pick a lock.

Lock Pick: This tool is used to manipulate the pins inside the lock. Lock picks come in many different shapes and sizes but they all serve the same purpose.

How to Pick a Bedroom Door Lock - The Steps

Now that we have gone over the tools you will need lets go over how to pick a pin-tumbler lock. Just a piece of advice if you will be doing this in the dark it might be a good idea to use a flashlight to see what you are doing. One wrong move and you could break your lock pins! If you are ready then lets get started:

Step one: Inserting the Tension Wrench

The first step is to insert the tension wrench into the keyway of the lock. The tension wrench should be inserted all the way into the bottom of the keyway. Once it is in place you must apply pressure to the wrench. The amount of force you use will depend on the type of lock you pick.

Step Two: Inserting the Lock Pick

Once the tension wrench is in place you must insert the lock pick into the keyway. The pick should be inserted all the way into the top of the keyway. Once it is in place you will need to begin manipulating the pins inside the lock.

Step Three: Applying Pressure to the Tension Wrench

As you manipulate the pins inside the lock you must apply pressure to the tension wrench. The amount of pressure you apply will depend on the type of lock you pick. Too much force can break the lock pick and too little pressure will not allow the pins to move.

Step Four: Manipulating the Pins

The goal here is to move all the pins inside the lock to be in the correct position. This can be tricky and it may take some time to get all the pins in the right place. Once all the pins are in the correct position you can turn the tension wrench and open the door.

If you cant do it correctly after trying it a couple of times we suggest using a different method or calling a locksmith. At CD Locksmith our locksmiths are always available to help you with your lock-picking needs!

Other Methods You Can Use to Unlock a Bedroom Door without a Key

If you find yourself locked out of your bedroom and dont have a key dont worry! There are a few ways that you can unlock your door without a key. Here are some of the most common methods:

Using Credit Card

One of the most common ways to unlock a door without a key is by using a credit card. This method is often used in movies but it actually works! All you need to do is insert the credit card into the space between the door and the frame. Once it is in place you will need to apply pressure to the card and push it towards the door knob. This will cause the door to open.

Using a Screwdriver

Another common way to unlock a door without a key is using a screwdriver. This method is similar to the credit card method but you will use a screwdriver instead of a credit card. To do this all you need to do is insert the screwdriver into the space between the door and the frame. You also need to apply pressure to the screwdriver and push it towards the door knob.

Using Bobby Pin

One of the most common ways to unlock a door without a key is by using a bobby pin. Before beginning:

Make sure you have two bobby pins.

Insert each point of the first bobby pin into the lock.

After both points are inserted apply pressure to the b Bobby pin and push it forward into the doorfor some doors this may be enough to open them.

Maintain steady pressure on one pin as you raise each end with a second (straightened) bobby.

Wiggle the bobby pin in the lock gently until you feel pressure or hear a click.

Turn the bobby pin as if it were a key pressing lightly against where there is resistance. If it fails to open the lock remove it and replace the bobby pin.

Keep wiggling it about until you again feel some tension at which point you should be able to turn it without issue.

Using Paperclip

Picking a lock with paper clips is essentially the same as picking a lock with a conventional tension wrench and rake. All you have to do now is turn two paper clips into those very same tools then pick the lock as you would normally.

To do this:

Start by straightening out one of the paper clips as much as possible. This will be your tension wrench.

For the rake take the second paper clip and make a small hook at one end.

Once you have your tension wrench and rake insert them into the keyway and begin picking the lock like normal.

Things May Happen If You Pick a Lock Improperly

Picking a lock is not easy and it should only be attempted by those who know what they are doing. If you try to pick a lock and are unsuccessful here are some of the things that may happen:

You may damage the lock.

You may break the lock pick.

You may not be able to open the door.

You may cause the alarm to go off.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to pick a lock we suggest calling a locksmith. At CD Locksmith our locksmiths are always available to help you with your lock-picking needs.

Tips for Keeping Your Bedroom Door Locked

Although it is essential to know how to pick a bedroom door lock it is also important to understand how to keep your door locked so that you dont find yourself in this situation in the first place. Here are some tips for keeping your door locked:

Use a deadbolt: Deadbolts are one of the most effective ways to keep your door locked. When choosing a deadbolt make sure that it is at least an inch long.

Use a strike plate: A strike plate is a metal plate that is installed on the door frame. The strike plate should be screwed into the door frame with screws that are at least three inches long.

Use a door bar: A door bar is a metal bar that is placed across the door. Door bars are usually placed at the bottom of the door but can also be placed at the top.

Things to Avoid When Picking a Bedroom Door Lock

There are a few things that you should avoid when picking a lock. Here are some of the things to avoid:

Avoid using too much force: When picking a lock it is essential to use just enough pressure. Applying too much force can damage the pins in the lock and make it more challenging to pick the lock.

Avoid using the wrong tools: Using the wrong tools can damage the pins in the lock and make it more difficult to do the process correctly.

Avoid picking the lock too many times: If you find that you are having difficulty picking a lock it is best to stop and try again later. Picking a lock too often can damage the pins and worsen everything.

Avoid Rushing: Rushing is one of the main reasons people make mistakes when picking a lock. It is essential to take your time and be patient when picking a lock. Rushing will only increase the chances of making a mistake.

Common Mistakes People Make When Picking a Bedroom Door Lock

Picking a lock is not as easy as it may seem. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when you are trying to pick a lock. Here are some of the most common mistakes people make when picking a lock:

Not Using the Right Tools

Not all locks are created equal. Different locks require different tools. If you are using the wrong tools you may damage the pins in the lock and make it more difficult to pick the lock. For example you will likely damage the pins if you are trying to pick a pin and tumbler lock with a paperclip.

Not Applying Enough Force

When you are picking a lock it is important to use just enough force. Applying too much pressure can also damage the pins. There are many pins in a lock and if you damage one of the pins it can cause total damage.

Not Being Patient

Rushing wont help you pick a lock any faster. In fact it is more likely to cause you to make a mistake. So dont panic and be patient so you can do it right.

Trying to Pick the Lock Too Many Times

If you find that you are having difficulty picking a lock it is best to stop and try again later. It is also best to call a certified locksmith if you find yourself in this situation. Picking a lock too many times can damage it and leave it useless.

Not manipulating the pins correctly

Manipulating the pins requires a little bit of finesse. You need to apply the right amount of pressure in order to move the pins to the correct position. If you apply too much pressure you will damage the pins. If you dont apply enough pressure the pins wont move and you wont be able to pick the lock.

Not Practicing Beforehand

Picking a lock is a skill that takes time to learn. If you are not familiar with how to pick a lock it is best to practice it beforehand. You can find tutorials online or practice on an old door that you dont use anymore. Practicing will help you avoid making common mistakes when picking a lock. If you have a spare lock you can even practice picking that lock.

As you can see picking a lock is not as easy as it may seem. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when you are trying to pick a lock. It is not a trial and error process. So if you are unsure about how to pick a lock it is best to consult with a professional locksmith.

If you need help picking a lock call CD Locksmith today! Our locksmiths are always available to help you with your lock-picking needs.

How to Lock a Door From the Outside How to Lock a Door From the Outside Without a Key

There may come a time when you need to lock a door from the outside but dont have a key. Maybe youve lost your key or perhaps the key is inside and you cant get to it. Whatever the reason there are several ways to lock a door from the outside without a key.

This blog post will discuss different methods you can use. We can also compile a list of lock types you can lock from inside and outside so you can have an informed decision when you plan to change your door locks. So without further ado lets get started!

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Can You Lock a Door From the Outside Without a Key?

The answer to this question is yes; you can lock a door from the outside without a key. But before we get into discussing its details its important to note that not all doors can be locked without a key.

If your door has a knob for both inside and outside then youre likely unable to lock the door from the outside without a key. However there are many ways to lock a door from the outside even if you dont have a key.

Here are four methods that you can use to lock a door from the outside without a key:

Use a paperclip or other small object to push the locking mechanism on the doorknob. This will lock the door without a key.

If there is a small hole in the doorknob you can insert a nail or other sharp object to lock the door.

Use a credit card to slide between the door and the frame. This will cause the latch to engage and lock the door.

Place a wedge under the door to keep a door closed. You can also use a chair or other heavy objects to block the door.

These are just a few ways to lock a door from the outside without a key. If you find yourself in this situation try one of these methods and see if it works. With a little ingenuity you should be able to lock any door without a key.

How to Lock a Deadbolt From the Outside

As we all know there are many different types of locks. The most common and secure type of lock is the deadbolt. A deadbolt lock is usually used on exterior doors and can be single or double cylinders.

Single-cylinder deadbolts can be locked from the outside with a key while double-cylinder deadbolts require a key to be used inside and outside. If you have single cylinder deadbolts and you need to go outside without your key you can follow these steps:

What Youll Need:

String

Tape

Pen or Pencil

Instructions:

Locks the door while you are still inside

Attach the pen or pencil to the top of the deadbolts level using tape or a string.

Make sure that the pencil or pen is securely attached to the lever.

Unlock the deadbolt.

Cut a string and ensure its long enough to reach the deadbolt lever inside and out under the door.

Tie one end of the string to the deadbolt lever.

Go outside and pull up on the string to lock the door from outside.

Now that youre on the doors other side use the string to pull up on the deadbolt lever and lock the door.

How to Lock a Bedroom Door from the Outside Without a Lock?

You may need to lock a door from the outside for many reasons. Maybe you want to keep people out of your room or youre trying to prevent a young child from getting into a dangerous area. Whatever the reason there are several ways that you can do this.

Add a Padlock to Your Bedroom Door

Adding a padlock to your door is one way to lock a door from the outside without a key. This is a relatively simple and inexpensive way to do it and will work with most types of doors. In this method you will need:

A padlock

A drill

A screwdriver

Screws

Instructions:

Step One: Drill a hole in the door near the handle. This is where you will put the shackle of the padlock through. Ensure the hole is big enough for the shackle to fit through but not so big that the lock is loose.

Step Two: Put the padlocks shackle through the hole and close it.

Step Three: On the other side of the door use a screwdriver to tighten the screws that hold the padlock. Make sure they are tight enough so the padlock cannot be removed but not so tight that it is difficult to open.

Step Four: Close the door and test the lock to ensure it is secure.

Using a Door Knob Lockout Device

Another way to lock a door outside without a key is to use a door knob lockout device. This small device fits over the door knob and prevents it from being turned. These devices are relatively inexpensive and easy to use and will also work with most types of doors. In this method you will need:

A door knob lockout device

A Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions:

Place the door knob lockout device over the door knob.

Use the Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the screws on the device until it is snug against the door knob.

Test the device by trying to turn the door knob. It should not be possible to turn it on with the device.

Use X-Lock to Lock a Door from the Outside

An X-lock is a device placed over the inside of the door handle and locks it in place. This prevents the door from being opened from the inside but doesnt prevent it from being opened from the outside. When you leave the room you have to slide the X-lock in place and when you come back you have to slide it off again. This is a good option if you want to be able to lock the door without a key but dont want to have to worry about losing the key. It is similar to a door wedge in that it is placed inside the door but more secure.

Install a Keypad Bedroom Lock

If youre looking for how to lock bedroom doors from the outside without a key one option is to install a keypad bedroom lock. This type of lock allows you to enter a code to unlock the door so you dont need a key.

Installing a keypad bedroom lock is a professional thing so its best to hire a locksmith to do it for you. But if youre handy and want to try it yourself heres how:

First remove the old lock from the door. To do this unscrew the screws that hold the lock in place. Then disconnect the wires from the back of the lock (if there are any).

Next install the new lock. Start by screwing it into place then connect the wires (if there are any).

Once the new lock is installed test it to ensure it works. Then pat yourself on the back youve just successfully installed a keypad bedroom lock!

At CD Locksmith we can install keypad locks for you quickly and easily. Weve been a professional locksmith company in business for many years so we know a thing or two about locks! We have the best keypad bedroom product so you can rest assured that your home is safe and secure.

Replacing the Existing Door Knob or Handle With a Keyed One

You can also lock a door from the outside without a key by replacing the existing door knob or handle with a keyed one. This quick and easy way to add a lock to your door doesnt require drilling a new hole.

Not all keyed door knobs are not created equal so you need to choose one that is compatible with your door. Measuring the diameter of the hole in the door is a good place to start. Next you need to determine how the knob will be attached to the door. There are three common attachment methods: surface-mounted mortise-mounted and tubular.

Once you have chosen a keyed door knob its time to install it. This process will vary depending on the type of knob you have chosen. Generally you will need to drill holes in the door and use screws to attach the knob. But since we will only be replacing an existing knob you dont have to make a new hole. You will need a screwdriver to remove the old knob and install the new one.

After removing the old knob look at how it was attached to the door. If it was mortise-mounted you would need to remove the old mounting plate from the door. If it is surface-mounted or tubular you can skip this step. Now that the old knob is out of the way its time to install the new one.

To install a keyed door knob:

Position the new knob on the door.

If the knob is surface-mounted use screws to attach it to the door.

If the knob is mortise-mounted insert the mounting plate into the hole in the door and use screws to attach it.

If the knob is tubular slide it into the hole in the door.

Use the screws with the knob to attach to the door.

Test the knob to make sure it is secure.

If necessary use a key to lock the door from the outside.

Using a Universal Portable Door Lock

As you can see there are many ways to lock your bedroom door from the outside without a key. But wait we are not yet done! Another way to do this is by using a universal portable door lock. This device can be easily installed and removed and does not require drilling or screwing.

To install a universal portable door lock:

Position the lock on the door.

Insert the bolt into the hole in the door.

Use the screws with the lock to attach it to the door.

Test the lock to make sure it is secure.

If necessary use a key to lock the door from the outside.

Install a Dead Bolt

As mentioned above a deadbolt can be locked from the interior and exterior of the door. This s one of the most secure locks you can install on your door. It works by inserting a metal rod into a door hole making it very difficult to force open.

When you leave your room you can lock the deadbolt from the outside using a key. By doing this you can be sure that your room will be secure even if someone tries to pick the lock.

To lock the deadbolt from the outside you just need to insert the key into the hole in the door. Then turn the key to lock the deadbolt.

As you can see several ways to lock your door from the outside without a key. By taking the time to choose the right type of lock for your needs you can be sure that your room will be secure.

How To Get A Key Out Of A Lock 7 Ways To Remove A Key Stuck In Lock

If youve ever been in a situation where youve had a key stuck in a lock you know how frustrating it can be. The good news is that there are several ways to remove a key from a lock and well show you how to do it.

In this blog post well share with you how to get a key out of a lock. Keep reading for five easy solutions that will help get your key unstuck fast!

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Why do keys get stuck in the door?

Before we get into how to remove a key from a lock its essential to understand why keys get stuck in locks in the first place. There are a few reasons this can happen but the most common reasons are:

The key is inserted into the lock at an angle. When this happens the teeth on the key can become caught on the lock pins and this can cause the key to getting stuck.

Over time dirt and debris can build up on the keys and this can also cause the key to becoming stuck in the lock.

If the lock pins are damaged they can become bent or broken.

If the keyway is not aligned correctly it can cause the key to get stuck.

The key will probably get stuck if the locking mechanism is damaged or worn.

How to Remove A Key Stuck In Lock

Now that you know the most common reasons why the key gets stuck in the lock its essential to understand which solution to use to remove the key from the lock. So lets see what we can do about it.

1. Spray Lubricant

If the problem is caused by dirt rust or grime build-up on the key or in the lock cylinder using a lubricant can help. The best type of lubricant for this purpose is a silicon-based lubricant spray. Apply some lubricants to the key and insert it into the lock cylinder.

Try wiggling the key back and forth gently until it comes out. If youve successfully removed the key be sure not to use it again and replace it with a new one as soon as possible.

2. Use a Pencil

A pencil is another common item that can be used to remove a key stuck in a lock. The lead in the pencil will act as a lubricant and help to loosen the key. You will need to insert the pencil into the keyway and turn it. This may take some patience and time but eventually the key should come loose. Be careful not to break the pencil lead off inside the lock.

3. Use a Graphite Powder

Compared to pencil using a graphite powder is much neater. It is an ideal type of lubricant that can be used to remove a key from a lock. You only need to get a small container of graphite powder and sprinkle it over the entire key.

Once done insert the key from the lock several times until the powder coats the entire tumbler. Doing this will help to loosen up any corrosion that might have caused your key to get stuck in the lock. Graphite powder is not hard to find as you can purchase it from any hardware store.

4. Push Plug Method

Some types of locks like pin tumblers have a plug inside them. The key is cut in such a way that it can push this plug up which allows the pins to line up and the lock to open. If your key is stuck in such a lock you might be able to remove it using this method.

The first thing you should do is push your key into the hole. Turn the key until the keyhole returns to its original position (when you initially inserted the key). This will allow the cylinder and pin to return to their original position.

After you confirm that the keyhole is in its original position use the fingertip of your other hand to push firmly on the plug face which is next to the key. By taking this step you can avoid the plug moving as you attempt to remove the key. You can now twist the key and remove it from the lock.

5. Use Ice

This method is one of the oldest tricks in the book and for a good reasonit works like a charm nearly every time. When a key is inserted into a lock it pushes the pins up to the shear line. If you can insert a small amount of ice into the keyway and wait for it to melt the metal will expand ever so slightly and this may be enough to release the pressure on the pins and allow you to remove your key. To do this:

Fill a small zip-top bag with water and seal it shut.

Insert the ice into the keyway as close to the base of the key as possible.

Apply firm pressure to the key and wiggle it back and forth until it pops out.

6. Heat the key

If you can use ice to get a key out of a lock the heat will also do the trick. The heat will cause the metal to expand and contract which may be enough to dislodge the key. You can use a lighter or a match for this method.

Hold the flame close to the keyhole before trying to remove the key. Since the key will probably be hot use a key extractor or nose pliers to remove it. You can also use a hair dryer in a hot setting. Hold it close to the keyhole and wait until you hear a click before trying to remove the key.

How Lock Type Changes Stuck Key Solutions

Different locks have different construction which affects how a key can become stuck and the best way to remove it. This is because the type of lock will determine how the key is inserted and how it interacts with the locking mechanism. There are three main types of locks:

Padlocks

Padlocks are the simplest type of lock and they work by having a shackle that goes through an eyelet on the locks body. The key is inserted into a hole and turns to open or close the shackle. There are a few things that make the key stuck in a padlock.

The first is if the key is inserted upside down it can become stuck in the lock. The second is if the shackle becomes bent or damaged it can also cause the key to get stuck. If you want to try removing the key yourself you can use a pair of needle-nose pliers to grip the key and pull it out.

Deadbolts

Deadbolts are a type of lock that is often used on doors. They have a bolt that goes into the doorframe and is held in place by a spring. The key is inserted into the lock pushing the bolt into the doorframe. If the key becomes stuck in a deadbolt it is usually because the bolt is not aligned properly with the hole in the doorframe.

To remove the key you will need to use a screwdriver to adjust the bolt to align it with the hole. Once the bolt is aligned you should be able to remove the key.

Knob Locks

Knob locks are a type of lock that is often used on doors. They have a knob that is turned to open or close the door. The key is inserted into the lock and turns to release the latch that holds the door closed.

If the key becomes stuck in a knob lock several things can cause it. The first is if the latch is not aligned properly with the hole in the door. The second is if the knob is loose and turns too easily. To remove the key you will need to use a screwdriver to adjust the latch to align with the hole. Once the latch is aligned you can remove the key from the lock.

Mortise Locks

Mortise locks are more complex than padlocks and they are usually found on doors. This type of lock has a rectangular plate that fits into a hole in the door. The key is inserted into a hole in the plate and turns to engage or disengage a bolt. If your mortise lock key is stuck the weather is something you can blame it on.

When its humid out moisture can seep into the lock which may cause the key to getting stuck in the lock. The best way to remove a mortise lock key is to use a lubricant. You can either use a commercial lubricant or WD-40. Spray the lubricant into the keyhole and wait a few minutes for it to work. Then you should be able to insert the key and turn it to remove the stuck key.

Cylinder Locks

Cylinder locks are also a complex type of lock. This type of lock has a cylindrical body that fits into a hole in the door. The cylinder lock is mounted inside the door has a twist knob to lock it from the inside and then has an exterior cylinder that requires either a key or a code to unlock.

If your key is stuck in a cylinder lock it is likely because the interior cylinder is not aligned properly with the exterior cylinder. The best way to remove a key from a cylinder lock is to use a screwdriver to adjust the interior cylinder to align with the exterior cylinder. Once the cylinders are aligned you can remove your key from the lock.

Tips To Not Get Your Key Stuck In Lock Again

If you find yourself in the frustrating situation of having a key stuck in the lock there are a few things you can do to try to remove it. However prevention is always better than cure so weve included some tips to help you avoid getting your key stuck in the lock again. Here are some things you can do so your key wont get stuck again.

Maintaining your lock: It is important to maintain your locks to prevent rust and dirt build-up. Lubricate your locks regularly with a quality lubricant such as WD-40 or silicone spray. If you live in an area with high humidity you may need to lubricate more often.

Checking the Key for Damage: Always check your key for damage before inserting it into the lock. If the key is bent twisted or otherwise damaged it is more likely to get stuck.

Inserting the Key Carefully: Take your time when inserting the key into the door lock. That way you avoid breaking the stuck key inside. Make sure you align the key correctly with the tumblers inside the lock. If you force the key into the lock it will likely get stuck.

Using the Correct Key: Make sure you are using the correct key for the lock. The wrong key can damage the tumblers inside the lock and make it more difficult to remove the key.

Conclusion

In conclusion getting a broken key stuck in a lock is a frustrating experience. However there are some things you can do to try to remove the key and some things you can do to prevent it from happening again. If all else fails and you can not remove the key call a locksmith. They will have the tools and expertise to remove the key without damaging the lock.

How to Get a Broken Key Out of a Lock

If your key broke off in the lock you know how frustrating it can be. Not only is it difficult to get the key out but its also easy to damage the lock in the process. Fortunately there are ways to remove a broken key from a lock without causing any damage. Yes you heard that right! Removing a broken key from a lock without causing any damage is possible.

In this blog post we will discuss how to get a broken key out of a lock without damaging either one. Well also provide tips on preventing this from happening in the first place. Stay safe and stay secure!

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

How A Lock Works

Before we discuss how to get a broken key out of a lock it is important to understand how a lock works. When you insert the key into a lock the notches on the key push up the driver and key pins until they are all aligned at the shear line.

This allows the plug to rotate freely and opens up the lock. If even one pin is not aligned correctly the plug will not be able to rotate and the lock will not open.

Why does a key break in a lock?

Now that we understand how a lock works lets discuss how a key gets broken in a lock. There are a few different ways that keys can get broken in locks. Here are some of the common things that can cause a key to break:

inserting the key into the lock at an angle

trying to force the lock open with a broken key

worn out keys that are used too frequently

old or damaged locks

Make Use of Tweezers

When the key has broken in the lock the first thing you should do is to look for a pair of tweezers. Find one with an appropriate thickness that will match the size of the broken key. Most are too small and will only end up pushing the key further. The tips should be able to open wide enough to fit around the entire key but not so thick that they cant fit along its sides.

However the standard size of tweezers will not work with most keyways. Tweezers will work best if the broken key is slightly sticking out of the lock. If the key is not protruding you may push it further making it even more challenging to remove.

In this case you will need to make use of another method. Many cases have proven tweezers to be the simplest and most effective tool in removing a broken key from a lock. So if you are confident in your ability to use one go for it.

Try Using a pair of Needle Nose Pliers

Another way you can try to remove a broken key from a lock is by using a pair of needle nose pliers. This is a good tool as a broken key extractor. It can reach the inside cylinder so you can grab the broken key and pull it out. When using this method you need to turn the key to the unlock position before you start.

This will give you more slack to work with broken key extraction. Align the tips of the needle nose pliers with the broken key and then grip it tightly. Once you have a good grip on the key turn the key to the lock position and pull it outwards.

Also be careful not to jam the key further into the lock when using needle nose pliers. This can make it even harder to remove the broken key. However if you do it correctly this is a great way to get a broken key out of a lock.

Use Oil

You may have heard that oil is widely used as a lubricant. This is because it can help to reduce friction. This can make it easier for you to insert or remove a key from a lock. Some professionals use dry lubricant sprays. However these can be expensive and difficult to find. You may have some cooking oil in your kitchen that you can use instead.

To lubricate a keyhole with oil start by applying a small amount of oil to the end of a cotton swab. Gently insert the swab into the keyhole and move it around to coat the inside of the lock. Next insert your key into the keyhole and turn it back and forth until it feels loose. This is the best chance you have of removing a broken key from a lock.

If youre still having trouble try using a stronger oil like WD-40. Apply it to the keyhole the same way as before and insert your key. Remember to turn it slowly at first so you dont damage the lock.

Probe and Pull Method

Another method people often use is the probe and pull method. This is where you take a small object like a paperclip or toothpick and insert it into the lock. Once the object is inserted you twist and turn it until you feel the broken key fragment start to loosen up.

Once loose you can slowly pull it from the lock with your fingers or a pair of needle-nose pliers. This method does take a little bit of patience but can be successful in getting the broken key out of the lock. Here are some of the items you can use for this method.

Paperclip

Toothpick

Metal hair clip

Bobby pin

Safety pin

Button pin

Pocket knife

Use Glue

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book but it still works like a charm. This is also one of the easiest ways to remove a broken key from a lock when correctly executed. First youll need to purchase some glue that is designed for metal (super glue will not work). Apply a small amount of glue to the end of a toothpick or another small object.

Once the glue has dried insert it into the keyway and apply pressure to the broken key. The goal is to get the glue to adhere to the broken key. Once youve done that twist and turn the toothpick until the broken key pops out.

Tips for Removing a Broken Key Stuck in a Lock

As you can see several methods can be used to remove broken keys that are stuck in a lock. These methods are proven and tested to work. However to be able to remove the key successfully you must know some tips.

Do Not Use Too Much Force

Always remember that a key broken off in a lock is already stuck. Applying more force will not remove it. In fact using too much force may damage the lock or the key making it impossible to remove. So no matter what item you are using to remove the key be gentle.

Lubricate the Keyhole First

If the key is stuck in the lock one of the main reasons why is because of rust. Rust can build up over time making it difficult for the key to move. To prevent this from happening you should lubricate the keyhole first. This will help to reduce the amount of friction between the key and the lock. You can use WD-40 or any other type of lubricant.

Figure Out Which Way the Key is Stuck

Before trying to remove the key you must figure out which way the key is stuck. This is because you will need to insert the item you are using to remove the key in the opposite direction. For example if the key is stuck in the lock from left to right then you will need to insert the item from right to left. Doing this will help you think about how to apply pressure to the key to remove it.

Dont Panic

If you find yourself with a broken key in your lock. While it may seem daunting do not panic because there are many methods you can try to get that broken key out. If the cause of your panic is that you are not familiar with using any of these methods then you can always call a qualified locksmith to come and do it for you.

At Camp;D Locksmith we are always here to help. We guarantee fast response times and quality service so you dont have to worry about being stuck with a broken key in your lock.

Tips for Preventing a Key From Getting Stuck

Although there are many ways to remove the key it is best to avoid getting into this situation in the first place. To do so practice the following:

Pay Attention

Some people insert their key without paying attention causing it to bend. This may happen especially when we are in a hurry or dark outside. In order to avoid this you should take a moment to line up the key with the hole before inserting it.

If you feel any resistance stop and reposition the key. The resistance may cause by the key being slightly bent so be careful not to force it in.

Wiggle Side to Side

When you feel the key is all the way in wiggle it from side to side before turning. This will help straighten the key if it is bent and also help lubricate the lock cylinder. You should avoid doing this too vigorously as it may damage the lock.

Turn Gently

Once you have wiggled the key side to side turn it slowly until you hear the click that indicates the lock has disengaged. If you feel resistance or hear grinding sounds stop and try one of the other methods below. Forcing the key may cause further damage.

Use Graphite Powder

If you find that your key is getting stuck frequently it may be because the lock is dry. In this case you can try using graphite powder. Graphite is a lubricant that will help smooth out the locks inner workings.

To use it simply insert some powder into the keyhole and then insert your key. Be sure to insert the key slowly to avoid making a mess. If you dont have a graphite powder ready you can use a pencil instead. Just rub the tip of the key on the pencils lead until a small amount of graphite appears.

Dont Leave Your Key in the Lock

Although it may seem obvious many people make the mistake of leaving their key in the lock. This can cause the key to become stuck over time as dirt and debris build up around it. After you have unlocked the door remove the key and store it in a safe place.

Dont Allow Your Key to Get Wet

Another common cause of a stuck key is moisture. If you live in an area with high humidity or if it rains frequently your key may become stuck more often. To avoid this try to keep your key as dry as possible. Do not store it where it is likely to get wet such as near the sink or outside. If your key does get wet dry it off as soon as possible.

Be Careful What You Put on Your Key

Many people use their keys to hold other things such as a keychain or lanyard. However this can cause the key to be bent or misshapen. In addition the extra weight may make it more likely to get stuck in the lock. If you must put something on your key try to keep it light and avoid attaching anything that could cause the key to bend.

Avoid Misallocated Holes

When inserting the key into the lock be careful not to put it in the wrong hole. This can cause the key to getting stuck and may damage the lock. If you are having trouble finding the right hole take a moment to examine the lock before inserting your key. You may forget to do this in a hurry but it can save you time and frustration in the long run.

Conclusion

Having a broken key on the lock can be frustrating but there are some ways you can remove it. Be sure to practice the tips above to avoid getting into this situation in the first place. If you find yourself with a broken key try one of the above methods to get it out. With a little patience you should be able to remove the key and get on with your day.

However if you are unfamiliar with how to remove a broken key it is best to call a locksmith. They will have the tools and experience necessary to remove the key without damaging the lock.

So when looking for auto locksmiths make sure that youre getting your locksmith from a legitimate locksmith company with proper tools and equipment. Furthermore if your car locks need replacement parts it would be best if your locksmith company has a good supply of these parts so you dont have to wait too long for the replacement parts. Auto locksmiths will also have to deal with the cars electrical wiring when working with locks so its also vital to ensure that they have the tools for this.

Background and training

Most locksmiths no matter their field of expertise can open basic types of locks. However its a different story when talking about car locks. Since the locking mechanism used in cars is different from the one used in door locks for your homes and businesses fixing car locks requires your locksmith to have a specific set of skills and training.

So you can make sure that you get your moneys worth when having your car locks fixed especially since its expensive check your auto locksmiths background and training. Furthermore consider looking at online reviews so you can have a good idea of how good they are.

Its your car security at stake here. Since you often leave your car alone in parking lots its essential that the car locks stay fixed and reliable after the auto locksmith works on them.

The cost

No one wants to pay a very expensive fee for something as simple as a car lock repair. However some locksmith companies and car dealers charge high prices that are too much for such a simple service. When looking for a locksmith to fix your car lock make sure that it wont cost you too much. Of course be wary of prices that are too good to be true.

Locksmith company or car dealer

When your car locks break down your first thought may be to call your car dealer to have the problem fixed. How Do Locksmiths Make Car Keys?

The car keys that come with your car out of the car dealer can last you years and even decades. However if youre unlucky enough car keys can also break down and you can always lose your car keys any day. When you lose your car keys you can always call your auto locksmith to provide you with a car key replacement service Lake Worth. Since car keys especially those used in modern cars are sensitive and technical you need to make sure that your locksmith knows what it takes to make car keys. There are many ways that locksmiths can make car keys and this article will cover each one so read on.

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

When you lose your keys and need a replacement auto locksmiths can take your cars VIN and use it to produce new car keys for your vehicle. Mostly the VIN can be found inside the car near the bottom of the windshield. Its most visible from outside the windshield. However the location of the VIN can vary depending on the car maker and model. If you have car insurance you can also spot the VIN in the insurance papers.

With the VIN auto locksmiths can get your cars key cuts which will be used to cut your new replacement keys.

Key cutting

To cut the key auto locksmiths use a delicate key-cutting process where they cut a car key according to the code using a specialized key-cutting machine. Auto locksmiths will put a piece of metal inside the machine and cut it to produce your replacement key.

Using a code reader auto locksmiths will feed the car identification into the machine. It will make the machine start cutting the metal according to the pattern received from the code reader.

However the hardest part isnt inserting the metal into the key-cutting machine. During the key-cutting process locksmiths need to adjust the key for vertical and horizontal cutting which requires precision because even the tiniest errors in adjustment can ruin the key.

Through this process locksmiths can produce a key exactly like your original key. To make sure that your replacement key ends up this way make sure to have your car key replacement service from a licensed auto locksmith.

Car key programming

Since new cars use transponder keys with immobilizers your auto locksmith needs to know car key reprogramming.

To explain how they work using the immobilizer your car can verify if the inserted key is compatible with the car. Its not easy work so its best to have an auto locksmith with expertise in car key programming.

Get reliable and affordable replacement keys

Your car keys are vital to your daily life. Since we have to go to many places all the time your replacement key needs to be as reliable as possible. For the best car key replacement service using top-notch key-cutting equipment in Lake Worth FL dont forget to call C amp; D Locksmith.

Can A Locksmith Make A Key From A Lock? If So How?

Did you lose your key and are now looking to replace your locks so you can get convenient access to your property again? But why buy a new door lock when you can just have your door locks keys replaced so you dont have to shoulder the expense of replacing your door locks right? In this article you can learn how locksmiths can create a new key without the original key by using the lock so you dont have to buy new locks unless you really have to.

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Why get a key replacement instead of replacing your door locks

If you lost your key you dont have to replace your door locks just to get a new key because locksmiths can still provide you with a new key even without the original key. While it takes a more challenging and time-consuming process its still possible for locksmiths to do it.

Another reason is if money isnt an issue to you and you really like the door locks you already have you can get new keys manufactured without the original too. In this way you can keep your favorite door locks and enjoy a new set of keys.

Produce a key using the code

If necessary a locksmith will disassemble the door lock to get and crack the keys code. By cracking the code locksmiths can then cut a key that matches the locks code.

Locksmiths get the code by disassembling the lock and looking at the pins and how they work. The locksmith will check the length of each pin and the order of the pins to figure it out.

Impressioning the key

Locksmiths can use the key to produce a new one. Unlike the first method locksmiths dont have to disassemble the lock when using this method.

To do this a locksmith will use a blank key which is inserted and turned in the locks cylinder. When the locks pins press into the blank key it leaves marks on the blank. Using these marks locksmiths can use key-cutting equipment to cut a new replacement key.

However since it relies on marks it may take locksmiths multiple attempts to do it successfully. While the first key may work it takes time and good key-cutting equipment to make a key that works every time.

Get your new key made from a lock and without the original

At C amp; D Locksmith our professional team of locksmiths can make a key without needing the original key and just by using the lock. We have also invested in the best key-cutting equipment to make sure our locksmiths have everything they need so you can get high-quality key replacements in Lake Worth FL even if you dont have your original keys.

Furthermore even if the door locks arent broken yet commercial locksmiths can check for potential issues that might arise later on and recommend steps to fix them before they become real problems.

Security upgrades

Commercial locksmiths evolve with the times not just in the latest security technology but also in the tricks and practices of burglars who might victimize businesses.

By knowing what the best security products are and the latest tendencies of burglars commercial locksmiths can provide expert advice on which security upgrades are suitable for your company.

How Do I Determine The Best Local Locksmith?

As a homeowner or entrepreneur its essential to prepare yourself for locksmith-related situations by having your own trusted locksmith company. However how can you determine which one is the best local locksmith? With this question being a key aspect of home and business security you need to have a basis when deciding which locksmith company youll pick. To help you heres how to determine the best local locksmith for all your lock and security needs.

Call For Immediate Response (561) 623-3664

Check their operation hours

When looking for a local locksmith ideally youll want a local locksmith who can provide an immediate response when you have problems with your locks and keys. Many locksmith companies only operate during standard business hours but if you can try to find a local locksmith company that operates 24/7.

Ask your family and friends for recommendations

If youre new in an area or its your first time looking for a local locksmith try to ask your family and friends if they have a trusted locksmith. Through this you can get some options that you know that your family and friends trust too.

Look at their locksmith safety practices

When you allow locksmiths to work inside your home or business you want them to adhere to locksmith safety practices. If they go to your home and open it without asking for identification you probably dont want that locksmith. Yes they arent good locksmiths even if they managed to unlock your home. Its because ethical and legitimate locksmiths will always ask for proof of ownership to avoid opening cars and houses for people who dont own them.

A complete range of residential commercial and auto locksmith services

Locksmiths who can do the work for your home business and car are very helpful as it means you have a single number to call for all your security needs. It means you dont have to find a different locksmith for your house car and business.

Search the internet

Most local locksmith companies have their own websites or Facebook pages. You can visit them and check what type of services they offer. Furthermore aside from looking at the companys pages you can also look for online reviews from the companys previous clients.

Be wary of the pricing

Always ask for a quote first before the locksmiths go to your location. If its too expensive think about it. If its too cheap it may be a scam. In the end you may have to spend more for a quality service from a legit locksmith company but that would always be better than getting scammed.

Find the best local locksmith today

Having your own local locksmith makes life easier when you have security problems. Get the best local locksmith in Lake Worth FL with C amp; D Locksmith.
